I sat in a local café, waiting for a friend of mine to show up. While waiting I was reading Enochian Vision Magick by Lon Milo DuQuette. Completed engrossed in the book I didn’t see my friend walking toward me. As he got to the table he chuckled and made the comment “A little light reading?” It was the first time I thought about this book from the view point of someone who does not practice Hermetics.

Enochian Vision Magick is a wonderful guide for those interested in pursuing the works of John Dee and Edward Kelley and their interactions with angels in the late 16th century. DuQuette uses his multiple skills to present a difficult and complex topic to the reader. Having over 30 years of experience to pull from, he uses gives the reader a guide on how to pursue working through the many tablets, sigils, and gods of the Enochian visions. I have to say that I was both excited and scared when I received the book. First, I was excited because this is a topic that completely fascinates me and touches a great many aspects of my own training; second, I was scared that the book would be too complicated for me to understand it. I was not disappointed with this book, it is accessible to the reader and gives the insight and detail necessary to work the Enochian system if you so desire.

I must say thought, it is not a book for the beginning magician; however, it is a book that many will want to work through at some point on their path, especially if that path includes Hermetic and/or Qabalistic teachings. For those that would like to merely understand and gain a new perspective, it will be a onetime read which will then become a reference book. For those that wish to dig deeper and work through creating all of the tables, tablets, sigils, etc and try to call on the gods for assistance in their work it will become a dog eared favorite.
